There are hundreds of guitar courses available online that promise to teach you to learn to play guitar. One of the good ones is Legacy System’s Learn and Master Guitar DVD course. From Steve Krenz’s quality video guitar lessons to the well done practice materials, this dvd course delivers what you need to learn to play guitar. It doesn’t matter if you are a beginning guitar learner who has never picked up a guitar before. By the time you finish with this course you should be able to play guitar quite well.
What You Get
The Learn and Master Guitar course comes with 20 guitar lessons DVDs, 5 Jam Along practice CDs, and a quality lesson book. Also included is free access to the online support website and community forums where you can ask questions directly to Steve and others as you are learning to play.
There is quite a bit of material covered in the course. There are 20 different sessions, which are further grouped into smaller, related lessons. I appreciate this approach as it made it easier for me to grasp specific concepts without getting overwhelmed. The menu system on the DVD is very easy to navigate and it is really easy to be able to navigate back to a specific lesson that you want to practice again. The included lesson book is also a nice reference as well. It complements the DVDs, with each section in the book corresponding with a lesson on the DVD.
Jam Play CDs
For additional guitar playing practice, you will find the Jam Play CDs be a good addition to the course. The Jam Play CDs are backing tracks that you can use to practice with. Each jam track can be played at a slow, medium and fast pace and it really makes it feel like you are playing along with a real band. It’s a fun way to practice and I you will really get a lot more out of it then standard guitar practice exercises.
How It Compares
When deciding whether to purchase Learn and Master Guitar, you need to compare it with some of the other good guitar courses out there. Currently, the main competition in this space are JamPlay and Guitar Tricks.
When compared to these two, Learn and Master Guitar stacks up quite well. And in fact it really depends on how you like to learn guitar which should factor into your decision about which course you buy.
What I like about the Learn and Master Guitar style of learning guitar is that everything is very structured. There’s a specific set of lessons that you need to get through in a specific order. This makes it very easy for a beginning guitar player to follow along, and start learning the guitar the right way.
With a site like JamPlay, its much less structured. There are so many guitar video lessons on the site, which is great, but this can also be overwhelming to a new guitar player.
With Learn and Master Guitar, you also get the consistent voice of one teacher, Steve Krenz. This wouldn’t be so good if he was a bad teacher. But Steve is excellent, and most people learning guitar will enjoy his style.
With JamPlay, you do have many different guitar teachers to pick from which is a great advantage. But sometimes new guitar players just want to start learning right away, and not watching a bunch of different videos trying to decide which teacher to pick.
In the end, Learn and Master Guitar is a solid guitar course, that will teach a beginning guitar player how to learn guitar. So if that sounds like you, then don’t hesitate to pick it up.
